Dr. Pauline Duke, Physician, Refugee Health Clinic
Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are known for warmly welcoming newcomers, and Dr. Pauline Duke is a true testament to that. She began her medical career in the rural community of Botwood, but has been treating patients at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s for nearly three decades. Seeing a growing need for dedicated resources for refugee medical care, Pauline led efforts to set up the Refugee Health Clinic. And recently she was recognized as one of the best in the country, receiving the Reg L. Perkin award, an honour given annually to just ten doctors in Canada for their exceptional patient care. Dr. Duke’s hard work has touched the lives of countless people in the province – those born and raised here, and those who just got here, who now call this place home too.
